Recipe: Silver Dollar City’s Molasses Ginger Cookies

Nothing tastes like the holidays quite like the sweet and spicy flavors of ginger and molasses.

SDC Molasses Ginger Cookies Recipe

Makes 20 cookies.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Ground Ginger
  • ½ tsp Ground Cloves
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¾ cup Shortening or Butter
  • 1 ¼ cups Granulated Sugar (reserve ¼ C)
  • 2 Tbsp Molasses
  • 1 Large Egg

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, salt and cloves.

In a large bowl, beat shortening with electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds, add 1 cup sugar and beat until fluffy.

Add egg and molasses. Beat until combined.

Add flour mixture and beat on low speed until well combined.

Shape into 1 ½ inch balls. Dip into a small bowl of water and a bowl of ¼ cup sugar. (For a lighter coating, just dip in sugar.)

Arrange balls 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 15 minutes or until light brown on bottoms. Cool the cookies on wire racks.
