Silver Dollar City teases 2017 Christmas expansion

Silver Dollar City (SDC) will add an additional 1.5 million lights to its already world-renowned light display for the 2017 Christmas season. The expansion brings the park’s total light count to over 6.5 million.

The additional lights are assumed to be part of “Christmas in Midtown,” a new attraction teased in a recent social media video promoting the park’s season passes.

Rendered graphics of the attraction strongly resemble elements of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights. That display, pictured below, was originally developed by the Osborne family in Little Rock, Ark. before being acquired by Disney in 1995 and moved to Orlando’s Hollywood Studios theme park. Disney retired the display just last year.

An SDC spokesperson did not return a request for comment as to whether the new attraction and the Osborne display are related.
