Silver Dollar City unveils new $26 million coaster set to open Spring 2018

After months of speculation, Silver Dollar City (SDC) officials today revealed details for their biggest attraction to date.

Time Traveler, a first-of-its-kind $26 million spinning coaster, is under construction now and will open Spring 2018. The coaster’s half-mile track will take riders on an incredible journey lasting just under two minutes, all while seated in a magnet-controlled spinning car.

The coaster will be the first and only with three inversions, the world’s fastest with a top speed of 50.3 miles per hour, the first and only with a vertical loop, the steepest with a 10-story, 90-degree vertical drop, the tallest with a peak of 100 feet, and the first and only with a double launch.

The ride’s announcement was made at a special event hosted at the park coinciding with National Roller Coaster Day. SDC President Brad Thomas explained the story behind the ride, which aims to inspire others to “dream big and do good.”

The launch event included a musical performance by the Missouri State University Chorale, a tour of the ride’s construction progress, a virtual reality (VR) simulation, and sampling of the forthcoming “Time Traveler” ice cream flavor by Hiland Dairy.

Time Traveler is designed and manufactured by Germany’s MACK Rides.
